I am fairly new to this whole social media marketing gig. Using Facebook, Twitter, Linked In etc. etc. list goes on…and on and on, now I am thinking to myself, this is pretty cool, and really pretty easy, overall. Make an awesome website (as usual), create a nice little blog, add some plugins that throw out some blogs posts at a regular schedule on all of the social media sites, and there ya go…bam…social media marketing gone wild. Right? Easy peasy?
Well… I have been doing some more research recently that would indicate that it may not be as cut and dried as all that. There was an article I read the other day, 5 Reasons Social Media Is Ruining Marketing it was very enlightening and a little painful. I need to get back to the basics of old school marketing as well as get my social media marketing skills going. Both are essential if we are going to give our clients the tools necessary to succeed in an overwhelmingly ‘marketing’ saturated environment. We can’t get lazy, and we can’t rely on the massive amounts of social media followers out there that follow anything, not if we want clients to actually get a decent return on their investment.
So, like the article mentions, I will go ahead and work with social media platforms, but I will also utilize a variety of other effective marketing platforms as well. Don’t put all your eggs in the social media basket, it may not last and may not be all that stable.
